Names: Dustin and Liza
State of Residence: Wisconsin
Children Already in Family: None
Type of Work: Dustin is a cost accounting manager and Liza is a college professor of psychology.
Education: Dustin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Sociology. Liza has a Ph.D. in Psychology.
Hobbies: We love outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, cross-country skiing. We are both very active – Liza swims and goes to fitness classes and Dustin runs. We like travelling and exploring new places. We like learning new things and seek out interesting destinations, such as museums or historical sites. We love eating out and trying new cuisines. Liza enjoys cooking and Dustin enjoys pickling and home brewing. One of us is always making something new to try! We also love just relaxing at home – watching a movie, watching the stars in our backyard, etc.
Plans for Working and/or Daycare: Liza will take a 12-week maternity leave and Dustin will take a brief paternity leave. We will both continue working but will develop a schedule that will allow us to spend quality time with our child. We plan to use in-home childcare when our child is an infant, and a daycare/preschool center as they get older. We both have some flexibility in our schedules and Liza has summers off, so we will be able to spend ample time with our child. Dustin’s parents live nearby and we know they will also want to babysit!
Health: We are both in good health.
Age: Dustin is 39 and Liza is 37.
Plans for Number of Children: We would love to have 2 children.
Pets: We currently do not have any pets but are planning on getting a dog soon!
Our Story: We met in early 2010, shortly after Liza moved to Wisconsin to start a new job. We feel so lucky that Liza took the job and found her way to Dustin! We felt an instant connection in our common interests and values. Okay, this is not completely true – Dustin’s favorite Beatle is John Lennon and Liza’s is Paul McCartney. Fortunately, we also love sharing new things and learning from each other! We knew that we had something special and long-lasting but made sure to take time to let our relationship grow before marrying. We wed in June 2013 in a small ceremony on the Mississippi River with our immediate families. We have both always wanted to be parents and are overjoyed to have met the right person to share this adventure with. We have a loving relationship and a warm home and we feel strongly that our path to starting our family is through adoption. We know that our lives will be forever enriched by having our future child join our family.
About Liza by Dustin: Liza is my absolute best friend. She will be a wonderful mother. She is kind, sincere, loving, and trusting. She has a wonderful relationship with her family and is constantly going out of her way to keep in touch with them. Liza is always looking out for the interest of others, whether it be her students, her friends, or me. I love her very much and believe I was very lucky to meet her. I can ask for no better partner to spend the rest of my life with.
About Dustin by Liza: Dustin is an incredibly loving and supportive husband and I have no doubt that he will be an amazing father. He is a mix of so many great qualities. He is a “guy’s guy” who loves sports and hanging with his buddies, but also helps with household chores. He is kind, generous, and loyal to his family, friends, and co-workers. He loves animals and always roots for the underdog. He is intelligent and is always thinking about unique and creative things. In a single conversation with Dustin, you might go from talking about politics, to ghosts and other paranormal phenomena, to methods for pickling food. He has a great sense of humor and is always making me laugh. He will be a fun and adventurous dad who is also very caring and supportive.
From Both of Us: We are filled with tremendous emotion when we think about starting our family through adoption. We can’t express in words how blessed we would feel with the gift you are considering giving to us. We promise to honor that blessing by being loving, warm, and patient parents who will provide your child with a sense of security, love, and happiness throughout their life. We are very supportive of open adoption and look forward to creating a plan that will respect the level of openness you choose for you, your family, and your child. We wish you peace and strength as you face the decisions before you. We are grateful to you for considering us and we would welcome the chance to get to know each other better.
