EVOLVE Family Services Is Committed To Serving As An Antiracist And Anti-Oppressive Organization.
EVOLVE acknowledges that we work within a society and systems of care that are rooted in white supremacy and racism, which frequently result in disparate outcomes for children and families of color. We are committed to dismantling oppression, racism, and other forms of discrimination in all areas of our work to ensure that the children, families and communities we serve receive excellent care and services that enhance and advance their quality of life.
In alignment with the standards of the Child Welfare League of America, EVOLVE cultivates the ability of our staff and our systems of care to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, races, ethnic backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions, and faiths in a manner that recognizes, affirms, and values the work of the individuals, families, tribes and communities that protects the dignity of each.
Virtual camps are free of charge!
When we resume having in-person camps, our UMOJA MN Scholarships are available for families who have adopted through the MN Foster Care/MN Waiting System, current Minnesota foster parent, kinship parent through the Minnesota Foster Care, or have a pre-adoptive child placed through Minnesota Foster Care System.
Because we are sending camp materials to families during virtual camps, we require that cancellations must be made at least 7 business days before the scheduled camp, via phone or email.
This policy will be updated when we return to having in-person camps.
Family Scholarship Policies
Current non-adoptive, post-adoptive, and kinship foster families need to have a transracial child placed in their home at the time of registration (the focus of the camp is African American children, but will accept any transracial placement at the time of registration), be of African American descent or be open to the placement of a Black child in the near future to receive the grant.
Children need to have been placed through the MN foster care system and the family has to be a current resident of Minnesota to receive the scholarship.
Multiple Use Policy
After the first attendance at UMOJA between July 1 – June 30th (our fiscal year), families who wish to access the scholarship for another camp in that same time period will be put on a waiting list. If there are scholarships remaining one month prior to the event, repeating families are eligible to receive scholarships, based on when they submitted their application (with priority placed on post-adoptive foster families).
Conflict of Interest Policy
EVOLVE staff and volunteers whose job duties include working at the event may not access the family scholarships. EVOLVE staff and volunteers whose job duties do not include working at the camp, may submit an application for the scholarship. If they meet the eligibility requirements for the scholarship and if there is funding available they can receive a scholarship. EVOLVE staff receives no preferential application treatment.
