Jeff and Danielle

Our Story

Jeff grew up in a small town in rural Minnesota, the youngest of three boys. His childhood was spent hunting, fishing and playing sports. He went to college for machine tool trades but moved to Chicago to follow his dream of being a chef. Danielle was born and raised in the city of Chicago. The hustle and bustle of living in such a large city shaped her open mindedness, independence, and resilience. She worked downtown for a construction firm and took night classes at DePaul University.

We met in Chicago at a BBQ in 2002 and have been inseparable ever since. We married in 2011 when we felt ready to begin a new chapter and start a family. Over the years, we have experienced many of life’s ups and downs together and it’s strengthened our mutual respect, trust, and love for each other. We feel we make a great team and we truly enjoy parenting together.

Roman was enthusiastically welcomed into our family through adoption in 2015. He is adorable, friendly, kind, loving, funny, smart, creative, athletic, and adventurous. We love and admire him very much! Roman’s enthusiastic friendship and genuine love for family will make him an excellent big brother.

Jeff is always experimenting with cooking techniques, equipment, and ingredients. He enjoys fishing and hunting with his dad, brothers, and cousins. Jeff has quite the record collection. He is also an avid cyclist and runs flags for the Vikings.

Danielle loves to read and research. She loves sci-fi and historical fiction, especially if it’s a series. She also reads a lot about child development, parenting, and dog training. She enjoys competing in dog sports. She also enjoys biking, yoga, shopping and a good manicure.

Roman likes to ride his scooter and play at the park. He’s a bit of a daredevil and likes to climb and go fast! He loves books and shows about animals and their habitats. He makes something with his art supplies every day. Glitter glue, googly eyes, and the color green are featured a lot!

We moved to Minneapolis in 2017 because we felt it was the perfect combination of urban life and culture with access to the great outdoors. Several of our Chicago friends have relocated to Minneapolis as well so our friend group and support system was easily established and we’re very happy with the life we’ve created here so far. During the week we walk over to the park every day to play and for lessons: t-ball, soccer, gymnastics, and swimming. We love having friends over for dinner and play board games or hang out in the yard. On weekends, we love hanging out at Jeff’s brother’s lake house with the cousins. There’s a lot of fishing off the dock and on the ice in winter. In the summer, we spend a lot of time out at the family farm gardening and the kids ride around on four wheelers. In the fall, they look for turkeys and deer tracks in the woods. We love seeing live music and baseball games. We go to the state fair every year. Our vacations are usually camping and trips to Chicago. When the kids are a little older, we’ll do Disney, national parks, and other fun kid-friendly cities and seashores.

A Message From Us Both

We are so grateful for the privilege to be parents. Roman reminds us every day of what’s truly important in life, and we’re so grateful and happy and hopeful and excited for the future. We know how special it is to grow up with siblings and what an important part they play in our lives. We're hopeful to raise one or two more children, and we’re excited to see the bond they form during their shared childhood. Creating a full and happy childhood for our children and helping them mature into people with a healthy well-being is our life’s focus right now. We hope our desire and ability to parent meets the need of another family out there wanting to make an adoption plan for their child(ren).

We feel openness in adoption is so important for everyone involved, but especially for the adopted person. It’s important for them to be able to explore and incorporate all aspects of their identity. We would love to have an open adoption and for our child to be familiar with their first family through photos, video chats, visits, and milestone celebrations.
