The UMOJA MN Team is holding the UMOJA MN Black Heritage camp as a virtual camp in June. Our team is dedicated to families in our greater community and is here to support families in any way we can. The camp this summer is set up differently due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19.

UMOJA MN is a Black Heritage camp created to empower Trans-racial Adoptive, Foster, and Kinship families. Through a weekend-long experience, UMOJA MN provides families with adult learning opportunities, child and youth programming, and large group cultural celebrations.

UMOJA MN inspires families to reflect on the beautiful ways African Americans have contributed to the development of humanity. We believe that by intentionally reflecting on the ingenuity and artistry of people of color from both past and present, families are empowered to raise children of color who are proud of the skin they are in.

This virtual camp is on-demand which means there will be no live portion at this time. Resources were sent to families on June 1st, 2020. Each family has an opportunity to view the online resources at their own pace and time as all family schedules are a bit different right now. In addition to resources, families are also being sent Afro-centric gifts and gift cards.

We encourage feedback from families so we can learn if this virtual camp and the additional resources have been helpful. We know it is ideal to have an in-person camp to provide each other with the opportunity to get together and talk, share stories, and develop friendships and lasting connections. However, for everyone’s health and safety during the COVID-19 situation we want to ensure proper social distancing is maintained.

We hope everyone has a great experience with UMOJA MN June virtual camp and feel free to reach out if you need any additional support or services during this time.
