It was a beautiful sunny day at Lucy Winton Bell Athletic Complex, where Kickball 4 A Cause hosted its fourth event on Saturday, August 19.

Eight teams competed in the double elimination tournament.

Best team name was awarded to Marissa Kuehn’s team, 2 Legit 2 Kick.

The same team went on to win the tournament in a close match against Marissa’s brother, Nick Kuehn, and his team, the former champion.

Nick awarded his sister the coveted golden traveling team trophy with reluctance and a challenge for next year. Marissa’s team was comprised of her co-workers at Thomson-Reuters, family and friends.

The EVOLVE staff did their best and even came up with an enthusiastic cheer, but alas, they lost both games. A good time was had by all participants with the discussion that many would like to get their own team together next year because it was so very much fun! EVOLVE staff member, Melanie Adams said, “I haven’t played kickball since eighth grade! It was a blast!” Melanie brought two friends and her mom to cheer for her team.

Board member and Co-Chair Ali Adsit’s team, Pitch Please, came back after an initial loss to finish in third place.

Each year, EVOLVE’s Next Generation Leaders have designated all funds raised at the event to the Anne McManus Fund, which provides for the supplemental needs of kids in foster care. This fund has supported gym memberships, gymnastics lessons, driver training, prom attire, hockey equipment, braces, educational classes and newborn supplies for twins.

People can support the program year-round with donations by writing a check or submitting an online donation to EVOLVE by designating the Anne McManus Fund. The needs of children in foster care are ongoing.

Watch for details for next year’s Kickball 4 A Cause. Don’t miss it!
